Presentations and Projects
This is a collection of presentations I gave in person with an overview of it's spoken contents, as well as other projects that do not follow a traditional research or analytical styles within their respective subjects. I enjoyed completing and collaborating with others on these projects and I hope you can gain as much as I did from them.
Presentation: "History of Irish Film Codes"
Presented By: Simone Bilich
Whilst studying abroad in Dublin, Ireland, I gave a presentation on research I conducted on the history of Irish film codes, and compared them to the development of American Motion Picture Association. A lot of the Irish code development was deeply rooted in political turmoil and a lack of strong Irish identity during that time. They looked up to America's strong patriotism at that time, and styles of political radicalism in historic films like Battleship Potemkin to implement into their own work. This desire for identity and unity was seen in these films that lead to the formal codes they have today.

Presentation: "When Nature Meets Tarmac: The History of Aviation in tomkins County"
Presented By: Group Presentation
This research was conducted over several months between myself and a group of classmates in our course "History of Environmental Thought". The course discussed the mentality behind how humans viewed nature over the time of America's development into the country it is today. At the end of the semester we were to present a project demonstrating a local version of these philosophies at work today. Our project centers on the unintended consequences of the development of the local airport, the Tomkins County Airport, and the motivations that lead to the solutions for those problems, and the results that followed. Results that include standard nationwide airpot construction regulations that are mandated today.

Project: Advocating Against Animal Experimentation

This semester I had the privilege of taking a biological philosophy course titled "Animals and Human Exceptionalism" Where we discussed the aspects of our human centered mentalities, and what it would mean to see non-human animals as more equivalent to ourselves. From the respect we give non-human animals based on where they live, to the language we use to describe them, the idea that humans are exceptional is imbedded in our society. This project focused on one of many themes discussed in this seminar, which was how non-human animals of certain species are stigmatized to be best for lab work, because it becomes easier to disregarding the danger and harm they experience. This project was to be more than an essay, and involve an artistic aspect. I decided to make it visually and formally like a front page news story, because I believe this information should be disscussed a little more than it is.

Written Project: "Why Mistakes Shouldn't be Praised"

contemporary art is a subject that can be confusing for many people to comprehend. In a desire to get a deeper understanding of what contemporary art is truly about, I took a course called "Contemporary Photography". One of the questions we were asked was: Should mistakes should be praised in professional art? We discussed the confusion of young photographers that are ridiculed for the same mistakes that professional photographers are praised for. This paper is to articulate my view on this question.
